The Manchester Township Police Departments Traffic Safety Unit

Education, Engineering, and Enforcement

The Traffic Safety Section is comprised of highly skilled police officers whose training and expertise provide valuable services to the citizens of Manchester Township and the surrounding communities.

The unit started  many educational programs within the Manchester School system. Some of these programs were:

For The Adult Community the Unit provided:

National Safety Councils Defensive Driving Program- This program was given to over twenty thousand people ranging an age of seventeen and up.

 

The Unit supports the Ocean County Police Academy, teaching Police recruits Defensive Driving, Emergency Vehicle Operations, High Speed Pursuit, and Accident Investigation, and is also an integral part of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Team

The Traffic Safety Unit has conducted engineering studies focusing on roadway safety in Manchester.. The product of these studies has led to the installation of more than Four Hundred Stop Signs, and over One Hundred Speed Signs. Data collection and analysis also help identify hazardous roadway locations.

These officers review over Eight Hundred accident reports per year, for statistical purposes and later for data collection. This unit is On-Call 24/7 and respond to, and investigate all fatal or other serious accidents which may require their expertise in accident reconstruction. On average, Manchester experiences Eight(8) fatal accidents per year from one to multi-vehicle collisions, or pedestrian, bicycle, or motorcycle.
